Welcome to the FIMS & Nursing Building (FNB) on Western University’s campus!
Take the six-stop self-guided tour provided here to give you a better idea of what student life is like in the home of the Faculty of Information and Media Studies!
Start the tour in the Creative Commons where you will find Stop #1 of the QR Code Self-Guided Tour before heading off to have a look at some other areas of interest. Follow the purple FIMS Spring Open House decals on the floor to find your way around.

FIMS Creative Commons


The Commons is a gathering and study place provided for FIMS undergraduate students. Recently updated with media screens through a generous donation from the Western Alumni Association, the space also holds formal events and social get togethers.
More Facts:
- The FIMS Academic Advisors work in offices just off the Commons (FNB 2001)
- The FIMSSC (students’ council) office is also accessed through the Commons
- The Commons is a great place for FIMS students to grab a coffee and study or catch up with friends

FIMS Undergraduate Student Services


The FIMS Undergraduate Student Services office is where you can find staff whose role it is to take care of administrative issues related to FIMS undergraduate students. It’s a one-stop shop that can help you keep your degree on track.
Services include:
- Academic Advising (stay on track to graduate!)
- FIMS Career Services (get a head start on building skills for the job market)
- Internship office (staff who manage the FIMS internship program work out of UGSS)
- General support (have a problem that’s affecting your studies negatively? Chat with one of our Advisors about how we can help)

FIMS Mac Lab


The FIMS Mac Lab (FNB 2070) is the computer lab in which a number of production courses are taught. It is a FIMS-only resource and also includes a podcasting booth just off to the side. The lab is a secure room but students who have classes in 2070 will have access to the room using their WesternOne card.
Classes taught here include:
- Web Design
- Digital Music
- Graphic Design
- Podcasting and Audio Journalism
- Video Theory and Production

FNB Lecture Hall (2240)


The FIMS & Nursing Building has numerous general use lecture halls located throughout the first, second and third floors. Many FIMS classes are taught in these rooms, though classes offered through other faculties are also taught here.
More Facts
- Lecture halls in FNB seat between 40 and 120 students
- Rooms are equipped with multimedia tech to aid instructors in presenting their material
- When not being used to teach, the lecture halls are often booked to hold academic events like guest lectures and research seminars

FIMS Wall of Fame (Atrium)


The FNB atrium is a general use area, meaning that Western community members from across campus use the space to gather, study, and work. Designed to maximize natural light, the atrium and its floating staircases are normally bustling with students, staff and faculty during the academic year.
More Facts
- Both FIMS and the School of Nursing have their own dedicated wing across the atrium from each other
- In nice weather the courtyard outside is a great place to take a break and get some fresh air
- General seating space for students is provided on the first, second and third floors
- Only the FIMS wing has a fourth floor, which is where you’ll find the offices of your professors

FIMSSC (Students’ Council) Office

The FIMSSC office is home to the FIMS Students’ Council – a student-run organization with 20+ roles. Joining the FIMSSC is a great way to get involved in the faculty and make some new friends.
